The Texas Horned Lizards are awake after their winter hibernation and they are happy to know that this year marks the 75th Anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. Conservation plays a big role in what the Natural Resources team does here at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, but in the case of caring for a lizard population, it takes a village. Tinker AFB has partnered with the Oklahoma City Zoo and the University of Oklahoma to study and protect the dwindling population of the Texas horned lizards. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation considers the Texas horned lizards a species of special concern, so the partnership with the zoo and OU is vital to ensure the population of Texas horned lizards at Tinker continue to thrive.
