With the snip of scissors, history was made April 24 in Egypt.
Larry Jones, vice president for Military Customer Support for Pratt and Whitney, cut the ribbon to activate the Egyptian Air Force's F100 Engine Depot in Helwan, Egypt.
The program manager for the multi-year project was Denese Somers, 542nd Combat Sustainment Squadron, who coordinated the facility upgrades from 2005 to 2006.
Ms. Somers also coordinated delivery of essential F100 engine support equipment and spare parts, along with an onsite Pratt and Whitney field support representative, who provides ongoing technical support to the Egyptian air force.
The first module the depot will produce is the low pressure turbine.
Representing the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at the activation was Charles Wheeler, a 542nd CBSS member who is the F100 sustainment program manager for Egypt, Jordan and Thailand.
Mr. Wheeler said the cooperation between the Egyptian air force, the United States Air Force and Pratt and Whitney was like "three legs of a triangle, all of which are necessary for the triangle to hold its shape."
