3/3/2011 - TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Ironmen took the win in the first official intramural flag football game of the season at 6 p.m. on Tuesday against Reserve Gold.
The two teams started off in a game of cat-and-mouse, both holding each other with steady offense and defense. With two minutes to the end of the first quarter, Reserve Gold scored their only three points of the game on a fourth-and-goal field goal.
The Ironmen led into the second quarter with a 45-yard gain for a first down. On their third down the Ironmen scored the first touchdown of the game, and ran the ball for a two-point conversion making the score 8-3.
Reserve Gold made an attempt at a come-back when they made an interception at the end of the second, giving them an offense advantage at the start of the third quarter. But neither team scored during the third.
In the fourth quarter the Ironmen owned the field, scoring their second touchdown of the game, raising the score to 14-3. They missed the field goal kick but held the Gold offense for the remainder of the game.
The first unofficial game of the season scheduled at 5 p.m. was cancelled due to a forfeit. Spring flag football games are every Tuesday night from 5 to 9 p.m.
