TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --   It was a close, close game with an intense final 30 seconds. On Feb. 27 at the Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center main gymnasium, the 552nd AMXS "Bobbleheads" intramural large squadron basketball team defeated Team TACAMO 32-31.

TACAMO, which trailed by no more than eight points the entire game, almost had the win in the final seconds. Behind by just one point, they were on the road to victory when the buzzer sounded. Leaving many to question, "if only ..."

"Team TACAMO played hard and we're getting prepared for the next tournament," said Coach Erik Timmons.

The Bobbleheads took control from the very beginning, scoring the first four points of the game. With 13 minutes left in the first half, TACAMO put its first two points on the board. A minute later, Bobbleheads add another two, but TACAMO's Omari Blair came right back with a three-pointer, cutting the Bobbleheads' lead to just one at 6-5.

After the Bobbleheads' Brandon Savage scored a point on a foul shot, TACAMO scored and the teams were tied at seven points each.

The tie was broken less than a minute later when the Bobbleheads scored two more points. After trading baskets over the next couple of minutes, momentum shifted to the Bobbleheads and their lead grew to five points, 14-9.

With two minutes left in the half, TACAMO's Blair hit four free-throws to bring his team back to within one point. The comback was short-lived as the Bobbleheads' David Parker and Daniel Banks each scored to put the Bobbleheads up 18-13 at the half.

The Bobbleheads wasted no time in the second half and widened their lead to seven in the first three minutes. TACAMO countered with three points of their own.

With the score 20-16 in favor of the Bobbleheads, the fans started growing restless. TACAMO Coach Timmons offered encouragement to his squad, while Lauren Parker, sister of the Bobbleheads' David Parker, slammed an open palm against the table where she sat keeping score.

"Shoot it," she yelled. Her brother made the shot, putting the Bobbleheads up by six. The lead grew to eight points when Roderick Ivory dunked the ball.

Coach Timmons called a time-out and TACAMO regrouped. After the time-out, the teams traded buckets and the lead stayed at eight points in favor of the Bobbleheads.

Over the next two minutes, TACAMO scored six points and cut the Bobbleheads' lead to two points. With the score 26-24, Coach Timmons called a second time-out.

With just under two minutes left in the game, Coach Timmons called his third time-out. Back on the court, his team responded as Gaines hit a bucket that tied the score at 28.

Savage scored on a Bobbleheads fast break, to put his team back on top, and Parker followed with a basket of his own. With 10 seconds left, TACAMO's Blair hit a bucket. The Bobbleheads led by one, 32-31, when the buzzer sounded.
