TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --   The 2012 Tinker AFB Spring Flag Football League begins its sixth season next week.

The league is comprised of eight teams: Reserve Red, Reserve White, Reserve Gold, 72nd Medical Group, 552nd Air Control Networking Squadron, VQ-3 Iron Men, Strategic Communications Wing One, and the Gym Rats.

Games will be played for 11 weeks and only on Tuesdays, from 5 to 9 p.m., according to Ralph Hawkins, commissioner of the SFFL.

The schedule for March 6 starts off with Reserve White vs. the Iron Men at 5 p.m., followed by Reserve Gold vs. SCW1 at 6 p.m.; the Gym Rats against Reserve Red at 7 p.m.; and the Med Group vs. 552 ACNS at 8 p.m.

At least temporarily, all SFFL games will be played in the outfield of softball field #2, "where the SFFL began and our games were held the first three years of the league's existence," Hawkins recalled. Since the outfield is smaller than the gridiron, the teams will be limited to 6-on-6 rather than the standard 8-on-8, Hawkins explained.

The 72nd Air Base Wing Safety Office has declared the football field off-limits until repairs are made. A waterline break kept the sideline at the northern edge of the field constantly soggy, noted Emily Wolfgeher, Systems Safety Manager in the Ground Safety office. In addition, a bare patch of ground approximately 18 feet wide by about 36 feet long in the center of the field near the 10-yard line on the east end of the field has "an abnormal and irregular playing surface," Ms. Wolfgeher related.
