Employees’ TOP opportunity
TOPS presents current employees a developmental opportunity to transition into specific general schedule series based on their education, experience and performance.
Management has now identified GS-301 series for implementation which includes Data Systems Specialist (GS-301), Process Analyst (GS-301) and Software Management Specialist (GS-301), in addition to Management and Program Analyst (GS-343), Equipment Specialist (GS-1670), and Quality Assurance Specialist (GS-1910), which now makes a total of four series that Management has identified for implementation.
A formalized training plan has been developed for each series with an entry level of GS-5 and a target grade of GS-11.
The goal of TOPS is to competitively move employees into positions that maximize their education and experience.
A 90-day standing register is used to refer candidates for consideration.
Employees who wish to participate in the TOPS program must self-nominate for each series they are interested in each time the announcement is open. Self-nomination is accomplished through the Air Force Personnel Center Website or through the Interactive Voice Response System at 1-800-616-3775.
Employees are encouraged to review their career brief and their Official Personnel File to ensure their education level is correct and the OPF contains a copy of their official transcript.
