552ND MAINTENANCE OPERATION SQUADRON

552ND MAINTENANCE OPERATION SQUADRON

The 552nd Maintenance Operations Squadron is an operational unit of Air Combat Command's 552nd Maintenance Group, 552nd Air Control Wing, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.

MISSION
The 552nd Maintenance Operations Squadron is the largest maintenance operations squadron in the Air Force. It is responsible to the wing commander for E-3 aircraft mobility operations, all wing civil engineer, environmental, engine management, logistics plans, supply, scheduling, analysis and training programs for all wing maintenance personnel.
In addition, it provides orderly room administrative support for the 552nd Air
Control Wing staff and the 552nd Maintenance Group staff, and manages a $4.2 million budget. This multi-faceted squadron provides the necessary
direction, guidance and support for implementing the policies and procedures outlined in all Air Combat Command directives. It also ensures that requirements necessary to support the mission are included in all appropriate
plans and host tenant agreements.

HISTORY
The 552nd Logistics Support Squadron was activated May 29, 1992. This newly formed squadron resulted from the reorganization of the 552nd Air Control Wing, with the inactivation of the 28th Air Division.
The squadron played an integral role in supporting Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch, Desert Thunder I and II, Desert Fox and Allied Force.
The squadron takes great pride in its part in helping the wing earn the highest "outstanding" rating in Air Combat Command's history during the 1997 Phase
I Operational Readiness Inspection, and the highest ever "Compliance" rating for a logistics group during the 2001 ACC Unit Compliance Inspection. In 1994, the squadron was selected "ACC's Best Logistics Support Squadron," and won the ACC Maintenance Effectiveness Award for 2000 and 2001. This led to its selection as the Air Force "Maintenance Effectiveness Award Winner" for 2001.
In July 2002, under an Air Force reorganization, the squadron was renamed the 552nd Maintenance Operations Squadron.
