Soccer season closer a tie; game cut short by injuries Published Nov. 12, 2009 By John Stuart Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- It's true that Sunday's Tinker United Soccer Club match ended with a bang. Unfortunately, the presence of ambulance lights early in the second half weren't the fireworks the team had in mind to close out the season. The legs of two players collided 15 minutes into the second half, as Tinker's Neil Miest fought a McLovin Football Club competitor for the ball. A loud crack of breaking bones reverberated in the immediate area and both players fell to the ground. The McLovin competitor suffered an obviously broken right shin and was transported away from the field by ambulance. Miest was down for about 30 minutes following the accident, with significant bruising to his right shin. He limped from the field on the shoulders of two teammates. Tinker tied the McLovin Football Club 1-1 as the game was ended after the injuries with only 15 minutes played in the second half. Things had looked good for Tinker (3-3-2) in the first half as Carlos Libreros scored in the 25th minute to put Tinker up 1-0. But McLovin sounded back quickly, with a goal of their own at minute 30, knotting the score at 1-1, where it would stay. Tinker closed out their season with the Nov. 8 game, missing a shot at the playoffs by one win. "I thought we did better this game than last week," Tinker United player Jeremy Hinkle said. "We slid the field better and passed better. It stinks that we tied, but obviously it's disappointing to see the game end this way." Tinker United players hope to improve their record in the coming months as they will return to action in the spring league play next year.
