Everyone is invited out for Tinker's Resiliency Day and F5 Music Fest, which will be held Sept. 18.

The day will start with the annual POW/MIA breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Tinker Club. Retired Col. Leroy Stutz will be the speaker at the breakfast.

The breakfast will be followed by a ruck march and motorcycle safety ride taking place simultaneously at 9 a.m. Afterward, the party will shift to the Airman Leadership School soccer field beside Bldg. 5702.

Master Sgt. Zachary Merkl, one of the event organizers, said several activities are planned, including a cornhole bracketed tournament, squadron versus squadron tug of war, a three-legged race and a lip syncing contest.

The Tinker Turbulence F5 Music Fest, which organizers say will be a fun, outdoor family event, begins at noon and will feature three bands: Rick Johnson, Hidden Agenda and Amarillo Junction.

"For a resiliency event, F5 is a perfect title as Oklahomans are known for bouncing back from the large tornadoes that seem to frequent this area," Sergeant Merkl said.
Community Support Coordinator Karen Blackwell said the Department of Defense defines resilient or resiliency as "the ability to withstand, recover and/or grow in the face of stressors and changing demands."

"That matches what Oklahoma residents have proven is a part of them numerous times," she said. "It benefits our Air Force family, active duty, civilians and their families to be resilient as well."

The four pillars that make up the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness model -- physical, mental, social and spiritual fitness -- are the focus of this event.

"We all have a responsibility to our community to provide an environment when we can help one another thrive and encourage everyone to be physically, mentally, socially and spiritually fit or resilient," said Sergeant Merkl. "We look forward to having our Tinker partners come together for this 'airmazing' event."

Free food -- compliments of the Tinker Chapel -- will be available starting at noon at the soccer field. Also, the 72nd Force Support Squadron will be on hand with food booths, snowcones and popcorn and the First Sergeant Council's new grill will make its debut.

Look for upcoming opportunities to sign up for events. You'll even be able to nominate someone for the dunk tank.

Tinker's helping agencies will be on hand to provide information.
