Energy Action Month at Tinker

To commemorate October’s Air Force Energy Action Month, the 72nd Civil Engineer Directorate’s energy management team is challenging Team Tinker to utilize best practices in efficient energy usage to enhance mission capability and readiness.

During Energy Action Month 2019, the Air Force is emphasizing the need for smart energy solutions and informing all Airmen about what they can do to effectively manage resilient and reliable energy across the enterprise, since every aspect of the Air Force mission depends on a reliable supply of energy.

This year’s Air Force theme, “Energy Able – Mission Capable,” tasks installations to foster cultures that prioritize energy optimization and water management.

“By prioritizing energy management and resilience, we are building a strong foundation for the future warfighter and ensuring Airmen have energy when and where they need it,” said John W. Henderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Energy.

For Tinker’s Jeff Kindschuh, 72nd Air Base Wing Energy Project Manager, awareness of proper energy conservation is vital.

“Energy Action Month highlights the importance of energy efficiency, resiliency, and security, helping focus on energy issues for all of us,” Kindschuh said.

According to Kindschuh, energy conservation practices have major implications. “Using excessive energy detracts from Tinker energy security, which impacts our budget and mission capability,” Kindschuh said. “The good news is that with several Energy Savings Performance Contracts in progress by both 72nd ABW and the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, Tinker is doing a very good job of reducing energy consumption compared to a baseline of 2015.”

“These large-scale energy projects, along with each individual Airman’s help in conserving energy, will continue to help Tinker reduce the installation’s energy usage by 2.5% annually between 2015 and 2025 as a part of an Air Force initiative to reduce energy consumption by 25% by 2025, compared to a baseline of 2015.”
