Commissary agency pulls certain pediatric cold medicines

Commissaries worldwide removed from its shelves several brands of over-the-counter pediatric cold medicine amid concerns that the products could lead to overdoses for children under the age of 2 years.
   Products manufactured by McNeil Consumer Healthcare and Prestige Brands Holdings, Inc were voluntarily withdrawn from the market, the companies said in separate announcements Oct. 11.
   The Defense Commissary Agency has instructed its stores to remove the following products from its store shelves, DeCA food safety officials said:
   · Tylenol Concentrated Infant Drops Plus Cold & Cough, UPC: 30045039215 (McNeil Consumer Healthcare)
   · Little Noses Baby Meds Colds Multi Symptoms, UPC: 7-56184-14041 (Prestige Brands)
   · Little Noses Baby Meds Cough N Decongestion, UPC: 7-56184-14021 (Prestige Brands)
   The voluntary withdrawal comes as the companies have found that there are "rare instances of misuse leading to overdose, especially in children under the age of 2 years," according to a statement from McNeil Consumer Healthcare.
   Overall, the withdrawal of over-the-counter infants' cough and cold medicines includes the following:
   · Concentrated Tylenol® Infants' Drops Plus Cold
   · Concentrated Tylenol® Infants' Drops Plus Cold & Cough
   · PediaCare® Infant Dropper Decongestant
   · PediaCare® Infant Dropper Long-Acting Cough
   · PediaCare® Infant Drops Decongestant (containing pseudoephedrine)
   · PediaCare® Infant Dropper Decongestant & Cough
   · PediaCare® Infant DropsDecongestant & Cough (containing pseudoephedrine)
   · Dimetapp® Decongestant Plus Cough Infant Drops
   · Dimetapp® Decongestant Infant Drops
   · Little Colds® Decongestant Plus Cough
   · Little Colds® Multi-Symptom Cold Formula
   · Robitussin® Infant Cough DM Drops
   · Triaminic® Infant & Toddler Thin Strips® Decongestant
   · Triaminic® Infant & Toddler Thin Strips® Decongestant Plus Cough
   · Tylenol® Concentrated Infants' Drops Plus Cold
   · Tylenol® Concentrated Infants' Drops Plus Cold & Cough
   Commissary patrons who have these products at home should stop using them. They can return the product to the store of purchase for a refund.
