E-mail changes on base Published June 22, 2007 By 72nd Communications Squadron Tinker Air Force Base Public Affairs Tinker Air Force Base -- E-mail at Tinker Air Force Base is changing. The Joint Task Force Computer Network Operations commander directed that HTML formatting is not allowed in e-mail due to inherent risks. Specifically, there are vulnerabilities that allow malicious code to execute merely by reading HTML-formatted e-mails. Microsoft configurations to protect against this HTML vulnerability also disable Rich Text Format display. All messages received will be displayed in plain text, regardless of formatting used to transmit. Problem: In order to mitigate vulnerabilities present in the Outlook environment, we must disable HTML as the default viewing format. Symptom: All messages received are displayed in plain text, regardless of formatting. Solution: Despite the change in viewing properties, all formatting is still in the message and can be viewed in its native format. In a message converted from its original format, a bar will appear at the top of the message, just above the "From" line. Left-click on that bar to display the message in its original format.
