10th annual Star Spangled Salute attracts thousands Published June 15, 2007 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Air Force Base Public Affairs Tinker Air Force Base -- Hundreds of Team Tinker members volunteered June 9-10 for the 10th annual Star Spangled Salute at Tinker Air Force Base. More than 100,000 spectators packed the installation and there seemed to be a Team Tinker volunteer lending a helping hand when and wherever needed. Event visitors participated in dozens of different activities, demonstrations and static aircraft displays. Among the two biggest acts were the Navy's Blue Angels, who flew six F/A-18 Hornets and performed fast-paced, aerobatic stunts, and the Army's Golden Knights, the parachute team. Sponsored by Tinker and co-hosted by the Eastern Oklahoma County Tourism Council and Aerospace America, the event also offered presentations by the Air Combat Command's F-16 Fighting Falcon East demonstration team and F-15 Strike Eagle West demonstration team, the Air Force Reserve Jet Car and a commemorative Air Force reenactment of the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor, known as Tora Tora Tora. Non-flying activities included a performance by the Air Force Honor Guard, a concert by country singer Mark Chesnutt, a show by Tops in Blue, the Air Force's traveling entertainment group, and fireworks. Static aircraft displays and a children's area were also open to the public. Aircraft on display included a B-52, T-1 Jayhawk, C-17 Globemaster and T-6 Texan, among others. Additionally, two E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft and a Navy E-6 were open for a walk-through tour.
