Darren Porter, left, and Hal Sultzbach, both storage area network administrators in the 72nd Air Base Wing Communications Directorate, look at a new system in the Data Center that is saving space and money plus increasing data storage efficiency for thousands of Tinker personnel. At two-feet wide, roughly half the size of its predecessor, the storage system still holds more information but takes up less space and uses less electricity. According to Mr. Sultzbach, after the new system was installed, energy consumption was nearly cut in half. (Air Force photo by Margo Wright)

Customer support

The new 72nd Communications Directorate Consolidated Services Center officially opens today in Bldg. 9001 Post DD46. Having computer assistance and replaceable parts available in a convenient center will reduce down-time when computer problems would stall mechanics’ work. Equipment custodian Kendall Kingsbury, center, works with TF-33 mechanic Mitzie Parmeter, right, and equipment custodian Ted Solis assists F100 Augmenter jet engine reworker Joe McGehee, far left, in the new center. CCAF

Tech. Sgt. David Santiago is an Airman Leadership School instructor who is close to graduating with a Community College of the Air Force degree, a personal goal and a job requirement he wishes he’d accomplished years ago. “The Air Force sets us up for an excellent road to success,” he said. “But we often just choose not to take advantage of it.” Deployments, family responsibilities and no ready access to computers were some reasons he delayed his education. Now the soon-to-be graduate and is taking his life-lessons learned into his ALS classroom where he pushes the importance of continuing education to his Airmen students. Creek cleanup

Volunteers removed 15 tires, cable, scrap metal and a baby stroller just yards from where West [off-base] and East [on-base] Crutcho Creek merge on base. John Truong, water quality engineer with the 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate, said stormwater from this source can carry quite a bit of small and large debris onto the base.
