Air Force Research Laboratory initiatives strengthen warfighting connections
U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Zachary Derwin, Air Force Research Laboratory electrical and computer engineer, looks towards the Joint Security Area inside the Demilitarized Zone in Panmunjeom, Republic of Korea, Jan. 20, 2026. AFRL team members visited the DMZ as part of an initiative to connect researchers with operational realities. This visit highlighted the critical role the science and technology community plays in American deterrence, motivating the AFRL workforce to develop the capabilities needed to ensure the combined force remains ready to defend the Republic of Korea.
