TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s director of
logistics recently told dozens of AFLCMC professionals at Tinker AFB that their
jobs are vital to our nation’s defense.
Cynthia Abbott, a Senior Executive Service member based at
Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, delivered an overview Nov. 2 in Fannin Hall about
how the AFLCMC is addressing a wide range of challenges and the solutions in
the works to address them.
“In your programs, you’re the key to executing our mission
and our warfighters look to us, especially in logistics, to make sure we have
the things they need out there for them,” Ms. Abbott said. “Whether we’re doing
a modification or bringing on a new capability, they’re counting on us to help
them and make their life as easy as possible once we get the equipment out
there.”
Ms. Abbott oversees life cycle logistics and product support
management for approximately 400 weapon system programs spread across more than
75 locations. The AFLCMC employs about 3,800 life cycle logisticians.
The director said the LCMC’s challenges include meeting
the requirements of the Financial Improvement and Readiness plan. The
initiative seeks to improve how Defense Department agencies track government
property and finances.
Ms. Abbott said her offices and personnel are glad to help
LCMC programs with any problems and to help smooth out and explain any new
procedures that may be required of them.
“We’re here to help you and try to make sure we have the
information that you need,” she said.
After the presentation, Ms. Abbott said visiting sites and
meeting logisticians away from AFLCMC headquarters in Ohio is invaluable.
“Since we’re not located together, communication
is a challenge,” Ms. Abbott said. “When you come out here, and you can see the
people face to face and sit down with them, you learn a lot. I think it’s very
important.”
