TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --
Evan Blatt was recognized by the 72nd Air Base Wing as
being a safety hero recently for going the extra mile to keep others safe.
The 72nd ABW Information Protection Office in Bldg. 7003
had a new handicap ramp with handrails constructed. A welding company completed
the handrails and failed to clean up the sharp metal pieces. Mr. Blatt noticed
that the discarded debris posed a tripping and foot puncture hazard to
personnel walking in the area. Mr. Blatt went back to his truck and retrieved a
pair of work gloves to clean up and dispose of the metal.
This is a perfect example of the wingman/VPP (Voluntary
Protection Program) culture, finding and correcting hazards or reporting them
so they can be abated, and looking out for the well-being of others.
