The sounds of squeaking sneakers and the excited shouts of intramural basketball are bouncing off the walls of the Gerrity Fitness Center again.

Play began Dec. 5 among 18 teams divided into separated military and civilian leagues.

The 12 military teams will play at 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through mid-February in the regular season. Six civilian teams will play at those times on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Bunch of Losers are the defending champions from the last season, which had mixed civilian and military leagues. Players included Sam Bryant, Brandon Savage, Cedric Franklin, J.V. Gray, Steven Dudley, David Alexander, Robert Myers and Anthony Smith. They’ll be playing under the name 366th MPC Bunch of Losers this year.

Civilian teams Garbage, Flight Controllers and Showtime did well last year and should battle for some of the top winning records. The league is rounded out by the Assassins and the 424th SCMS.

On the military side, 72nd Med Group was the No. 2 seed in last year’s Monday-Wednesday League playoffs. Competition should be fierce from three other playoff veterans – the Navy’s SCW-1 and VQ-7.

The big league also includes Contracting, CGOC, 366th MPC, 552nd ACNS, 966th AACS, 72nd SFS, 552nd MXS 1 and 2, and 72nd OSS.
