TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Engineering Directorate is gearing up for one of its biggest hiring events on April 28.
The invitation-only day of interviews will be the fifth hiring event since 2014. They are now held each spring and fall and primarily benefit the 76th Software Maintenance Group.
“On average, we’ve hired at least 40 to 50 people from each of these events,” said Gabby Madkins, recruiting coordinator for the 76th SMXG. “After one event, we sent 75 intent-to-hire letters. About 60 percent of our yearly hiring needs have been met by these biannual events.”
The hiring events have helped expedite 76th SMXG’s interviewing process. “These events allow supervisors to interview numerous candidates within the span of a few hours,” Madkins said. “Candidates are also able to speak with several supervisors and learn more about what we do in 76th SMXG.”
The hiring events have led to increased collaboration among various organizations on base, said Justin Thomas, supervisor of the 76th SMXG organizational development section.
“Last fall, we worked together with AFPC OL-Tinker, AFSC/DP, and AFSC/EN to give out 13 tentative job offers on the day of the hiring event itself. Two candidates who accepted our job offer were on-boarded within five weeks,” he said. “We hope to build upon the strong working relationship with these organizations in the future.”
76th SMXG is particularly interested in electrical, computer, and software engineers from ABET-accredited programs. Computer-science degree holders with at least 15 hours of calculus-based math/statistics credits are also encouraged to apply. The group is looking for entry-level or experienced professionals who are available to start full-time work between now and May 2018.
76th SMXG brings a broad scope of systems engineering and software sustainment expertise and capability to the Department of Defense. As the largest engineering organization on Tinker Air Force base, the 76th SMXG provides software, hardware and engineering support solutions on a variety of weapon systems and platforms.
Slots for the event are limited. Candidates are asked to submit transcripts and resumes to SEcareers@us.af.mil with the words “Hiring Event” and their discipline, such as electrical engineering, in the subject line. The deadline to submit the email is April 17. The Engineering Directorate will evaluate the submissions and issue invitations to top prospects.
Prospective candidates who may be unavailable for the event can request scheduled interviews with 76th SMXG at the same email address.
