Members of the 567th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base were congratulated recently for the work that earned them the Robert T. Mason Award for depot maintenance excellence.

The award, presented in December, to the squadron’s director, William Bauman, recognized the 567th AMXS’ maintenance on 25 B-1 aircraft in fiscal year 2016 doubling the previous year’s Integrated Battle Station production rate with 12 aircraft.

Additionally, the team decreased the aircraft flowdays by 21 percent, cost efficiency improved by $2.2 million between fiscal years 2015 and 2016.

Ken Watson, assistant secretary of defense for maintenance policy and programs, spoke in Bldg. 2122, Hangar dock 4, on June 27.

“When it comes to warfighting capability and increasing readiness, material availability of this jet and other jets out there, you’re making it happen,” Watson said.

The teardrop-shaped award sat on a podium in the hangar dock as Watson told the team their work is being noticed.

“Be proud of that trophy. Hopefully we’re going to take away some lessons learned about some of the things you guys have done so we can exploit that out amongst the rest of the DOD,” Watson said.

The award is part of the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Awards Program, recognizing the DOD most outstanding military maintenance units. It was also received in 2011 by Tinker AFB’s KC-135 Program Depot Maintenance team.
