The Home Away from Home program has partnered with the American Red Cross to offer a Mind and Body Workshop for all active duty military on Aug. 23 at the Red Cross of Oklahoma City, 601 NE 6 St.

In addition to active duty military, HAFH welcomes its participants, host families and retirees to attend the free dinner and workshop at 6 p.m.

HAFH Program Co-founder Pam Kloiber said the event will also have certificates of attendance for all military members that may be used for Enlisted Performance Reviews.

“Plus, a $10 gift card will be given to all active duty military attendees,” Kloiber said.

Red Cross Oklahoma City Regional Director Richard Unda said the Red Cross Mind-Body Workshops afford service members, veterans and their families with a great opportunity to learn practical relaxation techniques to improve their mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.

“This module guides participants through the ways mind-body techniques can be used for personal and professional growth,” Unda said.

The workshop module will focus on developing mind-body skills through drawing, journaling, meditation, mindfulness and body awareness through body scan, plus progressive muscle relaxation, mirroring and self-directed imagery.

Another event hosted by HAFH that’s designed to provide wellness, support and camaraderie includes the nonprofit’s annual picnic.

It will feature games and prizes, plus hotdogs and hamburgers, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Atkinson Heritage Center, 1001 N Midwest Blvd., Midwest City.

It is open to anyone that would like to join, but a RSVP is requested for both events to ensure an accurate food count. To RSVP or for more information email Kloiber at pamkliber@aol.com or call 503-5041.
