Members of the 72nd Security Forces Squadron visited Tinker Elementary School’s gymnasium Nov. 9 for a Veterans Day assembly of students and faculty. The assembly was heldto honor those who have served and those currently serving in the Armed Forces. The students, comprised of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, performed songs in honor of Veterans Day. Each grade chose an Armed Force’s Service song.
Principal Ashley Glover and Assistant Principal Susan Fulks introduced Lt. Col. Tyrell Mayfield, commander of the 72nd Security Forces Squadron. Mayfield spoke to the students about the importance of Veteran’s Day and why America celebrates it. Mayfield shared that it is a day to remember all the sacrifice service men and women make to keep America free.
When Mayfield asked how many students knew a veteran, the entire gymnasium raised their hands. This was a great opportunity to express how thankful students and faculty were for those who have served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces.
