A project aimed at sustaining the life of one of Tinker’s two 10,000 foot runways is currently underway.

The current repairs have been taking place to Runway 13/31 since June.

“There have been several projects to repair Runway 13/31, and this is the final project in that process,” Bradley said.

Airfield Manager Marc Bradley works to maintain a safe and efficient airfield and said the repair project has been ongoing.

“We’re doing it in sections as they need to be repaired and this is the last remaining portion on this runway,” Bradley said.

The work, which includes fixing the non-keel portion of the runway, is being completed by contractor Bell Contracting Inc. Workers will remove asphalt and soil approximately 36 inches down, re-do the subbase and drainage layer, and place new asphalt on top.

The work on Runway 13/31 is expected to be completed later this year.
