Tinker installation commander invites all to 'Helping Families Day' Friday Published May 22, 2013 By Col. Steven Bleymaier 72nd Air Base Wing Commander TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Please join us by volunteering your time and manpower to help the Shawnee & Moore Oklahoma tornado victims during our "Team Tinker Helping Families Day" this Friday, 24 May. Friday was already designated a Family Day. Well as you know by now over 350 Tinker families had their home destroyed or damaged beyond livable, and many more Oklahomans lost their homes. We would like to take the opportunity this Friday to transform Family Day into a day to help families in need. This is voluntary and not in an official capacity. If you would like to help, first please sign up on the Tinker Living Web page at http://tinkerliving.com/volunteer/ and clicking on the sign up link. Our A&FRC's Emergency Family Assistance Center (EFAC) is coordinating this volunteer effort. We will meet in the parking lot of the A&FRC, Bldg 6001, at 0730 Friday morning and carpool to both locations to help the families by clearing debris and other items from their property. Please come prepared to spend the majority of the day working outside and therefore will need to wear boots, gloves, have sunscreen and possibly a hat. If you are military, we encourage you to wear your uniform. Let's show the State and the Nation our Team Tinker fighting spirit by helping our fellow Oklahomans and Tinker Teammates during their time of need. We look forward to seeing all of you on Friday morning. Also, over 100 families have now signed up to adopt a family! Please continue to sign up for our Adopt-A- Family Program which provides families with the option to stay with a local family who has volunteered to open their home to those affected by the recent tornadoes. Also, we still need volunteers for your Team Tinker Helping Hands initiative, where we marry up volunteers with Tinker folks who have registered needs.
