Tinker Airman convicted of abuse Published March 8, 2013 By Mike W. Ray Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A Tinker Airman was convicted here Feb. 27 of physical and sexual abuse of his stepson, a minor child, and was sentenced to eight years in prison, reduction in rank and a dishonorable discharge. Senior Airman William E. Calloway IV of the 3rd Combat Communications Support Squadron was found guilty by the presiding judge, Col. J. Wesley Moore from Sheppard AFB, Texas, on multiple charges: having sexual contact with a child, taking indecent liberties with a child younger than 16, and striking a child under the age of 16. The Airman was acquitted of a sodomy charge. The attacks were alleged to have occurred between Dec. 7, 2009, and April 1, 2010, while Airman Calloway was deployed to Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and the boy was approximately 3½ to 4 years of age; subsequently the Airman PCS'd to Tinker AFB. The court-martial contained an abundance of graphic testimony. Colonel Moore sentenced Airman Calloway to eight years in federal prison; forfeiture of all pay and allowances; reduction in rank to E-1; and a dishonorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force. The Airman, who enlisted in the Air Force six and one-half years ago, could have received a maximum prison term of 37 years, court officials said. Capt. Jason Gammons from Randolph AFB, Texas, was the chief prosecutor during the two-day trial, with assistance from Capt. Nathan Mayenschein of the Tinker JAG Office. Captain Gammons, an Alabama native, is one of 17 senior trial counselors in the Air Force; eight of them, including Captain Gammons, prosecute sex-based offenses. He said he spends 180-220 days TDY each year because of his job.
