Tinker Air Force Base is nearly two-thirds of the way toward meeting its fund-raising goal in the 2012 Central Oklahoma Department of Defense Combined Federal Campaign.
By the end of Monday, Tinker had reached 63 percent of its goal, CFC Coordinator Stacia Hathorn reported.

The annual campaign began Oct. 3 and continues through Nov. 14. The "early bird" deadline was Nov. 2; units that met their goal early will receive an award at the conclusion of the campaign. This year's theme is "Back to School!"

The 2012 goal is $2.02 million, the same as last year, Ms. Hathorn said. A celebration is tentatively planned for Nov. 16 in the event that Tinker AFB meets or surpasses its goal, which it typically does, Ms. Hathorn said. The 2011 goal was exceeded by almost $26,000, she noted.

One charity fair has been held, and various CFC fund-raising activities have been conducted at Tinker, Ms. Hathorn related. For example, 72nd Air Base Wing Medical Group personnel paid to dress up in Halloween costumes on Oct. 31; the 72nd Operations Support Squadron hosted a Halloween-themed bake off; the 76th Propulsion, Commodities and Software Maintenance Groups in Bldg. 9001 hosted a combined Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday; the 3rd Combat Communications Group is hosting a golf tournament today; and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center conducted a cheesecake sale Thursday in Bldg. 3001.

The CFC, the only DOD-sanctioned fund-raising campaign, enables employees to donate to charities of their choice. The CFC is open to Tinker military, civilians, and central Oklahoma military-affiliated organizations.

Federal employees have contributed almost $7 billion to charities through the CFC since its inception in 1961, ledgers show.

Potential beneficiaries appear in a 66-page guide that includes literally hundreds of national and international charities. The list of charities is extensive, which "provides plenty of opportunity for everyone to support a charity they feel strongly about," Ms. Hathorn said.

To designate all or some of your contribution to a charity, simply record that organization's five-digit code number on your pledge form. Any funds contributed to the CFC that are not earmarked will be treated as undesignated funds and distributed to all organizations.
