Changes coming to Eaker Gate

As part of a long-term traffic analysis project, the Eaker Gate (Gate 2) will see a dramatic change in hours July 18 and officials are asking Team Tinker to be patient through the changes.

With an eye toward process improvement, the 72nd Security Forces Squadron and other Team Tinker agencies are conducting the analysis project to minimize human resource waste and installation vulnerabilities, and maximize operational efficiencies.

The next major step in the project involves the limited closure of Eaker Gate, which will close at the regular hour of 5:30 p.m. on July 17 and re-open the next morning at 6 a.m., with new regular operating hours from 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Although this adjustment may seem less convenient to those who are used to accessing Town Center Drive and Interstate 40 from Eaker Gate, exiting at the Tinker Gate (Gate 1) still provides timely access, said 72nd Security Forces Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Shawn Covault.

"For those traveling westbound on Interstate 40 at the end of their work day, we recommend that you consider using any other gate than the Tinker Gate at the end of your day due to the potential for additional wait time at the westbound Interstate 40 on-ramp," Colonel Covault said.

The traffic analysis study began four months ago and will continue for several more. Officials say that patience will be required as drivers adjust to the new traffic patterns.
