Rainwater runoff monitored for contaminants Published April 13, 2012 By Mike W. Ray Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Tinker AFB is in the watersheds of three creek systems, noted Wastewater Program Manager Brandt Fleharty: Crutcho, Soldier and Kuhlman creeks, all of which empty into the North Canadian River. Water samples are drawn each week at outfalls on each of those creeks and tested for any presence of oil and grease, chemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, total residual chlorine, biological oxygen demand, total dissolved solids, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, zinc, manganese, selenium, sulfates, hardness, and alkalinity/acidity, Mr. Fleharty said. Storm water from the far southeastern corner of the base flows into Hog and Elm creeks, which empty into Lake Stanley Draper. Storm water discharges from that sector of the base are minimal "and only cover a small section southeast of Runway 17/35 and the former EIG area (the 4000 number buildings east of Douglas)," said Tinker Storm Water Program Manager John Truong.
