In light of recent budget cuts, the 72nd Air Base Wing Communications Directorate officials want to remind users of an online collaboration tool, which offers an option to make teleconferences a bit more personal.

Defense Connect Online allows people at various locations to log on to the same single site and view charts or other pertinent information. Other DCO tools include web conferencing, chat, video, application and desktop sharing, voice-over Internet protocol, or VoIP capabilities.

According to officials with the Defense Information Systems Agency, which operates DCO in its Net-Centric Enterprises Service, sponsored accounts may be initiated by any non-sponsored DCO account holder, usually DOD personnel with a CAC. A sponsored account remains valid for a year with an option to be renewed at any time by the sponsor.

"Commanders are taking a huge hit to their TDY budgets, but the need to meet face-to-face or share documents and discuss are greater than ever. We want to make sure our customers are aware of the tools available to them to continue to meet their mission," said Donna Patten, 72nd ABW/SC Client Service Center Branch chief.

There are two options -- classified and unclassified information -- to create and access a DCO meeting room. To do either, a common access card or government email address sponsored by a CAC holder is needed.
