76th MXW plans for days ahead Published Feb. 10, 2012 By Marti D. Ribeiro 76th Maintenance Wing Transformation Office TINKER AIR FORCEBASE, Okla. -- Senior leaders from across the 76th Maintenance Wing met last Friday to discuss plans for the future. As part of an effort started last fall, the 76th MXW is developing a strategic plan to determine where the organization is going during the next few years and outline a plan to remain a vital asset to the U.S. Air Force. This plan includes topics like workload activation, continuous process improvement, building advocacy and use of the supply chain. "We want to clearly define our purpose and establish realistic goals and objectives that are consistent with our mission in meeting the warfighter's needs," said Col. Cedric George, 76th MXW commander. "We've included all of the Wing leadership so there is a sense of ownership of the plan we develop. We want everyone involved to understand that this is 'their' plan, for 'their' Wing." According to Clint Gill, Transformation chief, 76th Maintenance Wing, one of the goals of the strategic plan is to ensure the most effective use is made of the Wing's resources by focusing on key priorities. These priorities consist of capturing tomorrow's business opportunities, exceeding customers' expectations, building foundations of operational excellence and developing and caring for our people. "Last Friday's meeting was one of the many steps taken to develop an actionable strategic plan," Mr. Gill said. "But, the journey doesn't end there, we still have several more steps to take before the strategic plan is ready to activate." While the key priorities are approved, the way to get there is not. Wing leadership is still working to define the objectives and tasks involved in ensuring the organization meets it strategic targets. "We don't want to rush into something that isn't understandable, executable, enduring and value-added to the organization," Colonel George said. "We don't want another pretty chart to hang up. We want something that the Wing can use to propel us into future successes." The overall consensus at the Friday meeting is that MXW needs to move away from "business as usual" in order to stay competitive within our industry. "We must deliver war-winning capability effectively and efficiently in today's resource-constrained environment," the colonel said.
