Tinker now has a 24/7 Domestic Abuse Hotline Published Jan. 31, 2012 Family Advocacy TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Tinker Air Force Base has a new Domestic Abuse Hotline. The hotline -- available 24 hours a day, seven days a week -- is voluntary and confidential. Victims can call anonymously and have questions answered without disclosing identifying information about themselves or their partner. The hotline will be answered by the Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate. The DAVA can explain the reporting options available and encourage the caller to come in for services from the Family Advocacy Program. The hotline is also for anyone who has questions about any form of intimate partner abuse. The purpose of the DAVA is to help serve victims and potential victims of domestic violence. Eligibility for ongoing DAVA services is limited to active duty members and their spouses, although other Tinker personnel may be eligible for a one-time appointment. The DAVA is a full-time member of the Family Advocacy Program and assists with domestic violence cases. The DAVA can help victims in many ways, including safety planning, locating available resources on and off base, assisting in finding shelter, filing for a protective order (military or civilian), or just be a safe person to talk with. The Family Advocacy Program and the DAVA work cohesively to ensure that all victims are given adequate and appropriate resources and support. The DAVA's goal is help protect victims from further abuse or harm and to empower individuals into their future. The DAVA is also a resource for command and leadership. Questions are welcomed and encouraged to the DAVA or to the FAP at anytime. Understanding and education on domestic violence are key to overcoming this serious issue that impacts both military and civilian personnel and their families.
