O'Brien Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 2011 intramural volleyball championship and bragging rights were at stake. It was anyone's match. Both teams had a regular season record of 14-1 and had only lost to each other. On the evening of Oct. 25, Leaping Lizards White greeted Scott's Crew at the Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center main gymnasium for two intense games. After 40 minutes of passionate playing, Lizards claimed the victory. They won both games, 25-21 and 25-18, respectively. Game one kicked off with the Crew taking the lead. Within the first minute, they held a 2-0 lead. Lizards tried to catch up but remained at least one point behind the Crew. Three minutes into the game, the Crew widened the gap, stretching their lead to six points. Before the Crew could get another point, the Lizards tried for a comeback, but gained only one point. With the Crew leading 11-5, they widened the gap by another point, making the score 12-5. The Crew tried to hold the seven-point lead at 13-6 and 16-9, but the Lizards weren't having it and soon closed the gap to a five-point lead. Desperate to stay on top, the Crew scored three more points, while the Lizards scored merely two. With the Crew leading 19-11, it looked as though the first game was theirs. Before the Lizards could retaliate, the Crew ran with it and remained on top, despite the Lizards attempts for control. Ten minutes into the game and the Crew led 14-13. But, a minute later and the Lizards tied the Crew and nabbed the lead. The Crew played catch-up and tied the lizards at 15 points and 16 points. With the next serve, the Lizards again stole the lead and kept it. The Crew managed another point, but it wasn't enough as the Lizards only widened the gap.
