Air Force Assistance Fund drive entering third week Published Feb. 17, 2011 72nd Air Base Wing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund is a timeless tradition in which the United States Air Force family can give back in support of one another. Each year, funds are raised in order to ease the unexpected hardships that our active duty, dependents, and retirees may experience throughout life. On Tinker AFB, our military can get involved by donating through their Unit Project Officers. The easiest way to give is through the Payroll Deduction Plan, where you can designate a certain amount to be taken directly out of your check, for a specific period of time. One time donations, of course, are always welcomed as well. Although civilians cannot benefit from this fund, if they would like to give, they can approach their UPO and request information and/or give a one time donation. The AFAF donates to four different charities: Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Village, Air Force Enlisted Village, and General and Mrs. Curtis E LeMay Foundation. This week, the featured charitiy is the Air Force Village Foundation. Founded by the Officers' Wives' Club in 1964, AFV has donated over $12 million in confidential support to retired AF Officer's Widows since 1970. As Air Force Officers' Wives, they have served selflessly alongside their husbands, and AFV is a way to show them that they have not been forgotten.
