Many members of the Tinker Enlisted Spouses Network, as well as Tinker Airmen, volunteered their time Feb. 11 at the Airman's Attic to reorganize and restructure the facility from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Airman's Attic is similar to a thrift store in which new and used items are donated. However, instead of using the items for a discounted resale, Airmen classified as a technical sergeant and below and their families can shop at the Airman's Attic for no cost at all, everything is completely free.

Mariel Paez, the outreach coordinator for TESN, said the Airman's Attic often gets many donations, but because it is strictly run by volunteers, there are not always enough people, or time, to sort through the donated items.

"Our organization is going to be helping with the management of the Attic," Mrs. Paez said. "We just wanted to revive it and organize it."

The Airman's Attic has everything a regular thrift store sells but uniquely it has used military uniforms. The spouses and Airmen who volunteered sorted clothing by size and color and organized other things by specific service like toys, books and household items.

Senior Airman Ryan Dishong from the 32nd Combat Communications Squadron helped with reorganizing the Attic. He worked on sorting and hanging clothing and uniforms.

"It was a good way to spend my day and a great way to give back to the community," Airman Dishong said. "It's an excellent place to come if you need uniforms."

The grand re-opening of the Airman's Attic after it was completely reorganized was on Monday. Those who visit the Attic are required to sign in because there is a once-a-month visitation limit, in order for all Airmen and families to equally have the same opportunity to obtain needed items.

"It's here to help our Tinker men and women and their families," Mrs. Paez said. "Everybody is welcome to come."

The Airman's Attic is located in the Airman and Family Readiness Center in Bldg. 6001 and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays For more information or to donate items, call 739-7254.
