New assignment system in place Published Jan. 18, 2011 By Master Sgt. Larry Sampsell 72nd Force Support Squadron Tinker AFB, Okla. -- On Jan. 21, the Air Force will implement a new Automated Assignment Notification process affecting regular Air Force officers and enlisted in the grade of lieutenant colonel and below. When the Air Force Personnel Center loads an assignment into the Military Personnel Data System it will trigger the virtual Military Personnel Flight application to send a message to the Airman's e-mail addresses that are listed in MILPDS and the vMPF. This email notifies the Airman of their new assignment selection and directs them to access the vMPF within seven days to acknowledge receipt. Upon accessing the vMPF, the Airman is automatically directed to the official assignment notification page that will provide their specific assignment details. A courtesy e-mail will also be sent by the Military Personnel Section to commanders notifying them that one of their members has been selected for an assignment. Airmen must ensure that the email addresses listed in MILPDS and vMPF are up-to-date. This will allow timely notification. The goal is to reduce the amount of time spent on personnel actions and to allow 24-hour access to assignment information. Basic trainees, pipeline students, and colonels and above will use the current assignment process. For information, contact the Career Development Section in the MPS at DSN 339-3616 or commercial 739-3616.
