Tinker Air Force Base is helping make dreams come true through a new partnership with PepsiCo's Dream Machine recycling initiative.

In April, PepsiCo, Waste Management, Greenopolis and Keep America Beautiful joined together to launch the Dream Machine recycling initiative designed around PepsiCo's goal of increasing the U.S. beverage container recycling rate from 34 percent to 50 percent by 2018. Dream Machine kiosks are computerized receptacles that include a personal reward system that allows consumers to collect and redeem points at www.greenopolis.com for each bottle or can they recycle in the kiosk.

The program also provides funding to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, a national program offering free, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 veterans with disabilities. The more people recycle bottles and cans in a Dream Machine, the more support PepsiCo can provide EBV for career training, education and job creation.

"We're excited to bring the Dream Machine recycling program to Tinker," said Ricky Harness, 72nd Force Support Squadron director. "We often see veterans at the base who have returned from war with disabilities and are facing a tough transition back to civilian life. If we can help make a difference for these veterans by recycling aluminum cans or plastic bottles, we'll work to rally as much participation in the Dream Machine program as we can."

The Dream Machine recycling initiative will introduce thousands of new recycling kiosks and bins in popular public venues across the country to make it more convenient and rewarding for consumers to recycle on the go. Currently, Dream Machine kiosks are located in Oklahoma at Reasor's Foods, Oklahoma State University, Oral Roberts University, Rogers State University and ONEOK Field. The Dream Machine kiosk at Tinker is located outside the north entrance of the Tinker Exchange facing the commissary. Static bins for plastic and aluminum cans are also located outside of the Tinker Bowling Center and at the Qualified Recycling Program 24-hour drop-off site outside of Bldg. 1156.

"No one understands the challenges veterans face better than those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country, like the military members and their families at Tinker Air Force Base," said Jeremy Cage, senior vice president of Innovation and Insights, PepsiCo Beverages Americas. "PepsiCo is proud to provide continued support for veterans with disabilities through the Dream Machine recycling program, and so pleased that Tinker has joined the initiative."
