It was a tournament of almosts this weekend for Team Tinker. But all told they're pleased with the outcome of their performance in the Defender's Cup. The annual military soccer row pits some of the region's tops teams against one other, as they square off near Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Tinker came out blazing early in the first round, winning their division by toppling Barksdale Air Force Base 2-1, tying Hulburt Field 0-0 and tying Fort Sam Houston 1-1. Later, in the first stage of elimination play, Tinker dropped Keesler Air Force Base 2-1, advancing to the quarter-finals where they lost 3-0 to Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., notching a final record of 2-1-2.

Eglin went on to win the tournament 3-0 over Fort Sam Houston, a disappointing reality considering Tinker had the potential to beat both teams, said teammate Boone Caldon.
"It was a very impressive showing of 'iron man' soccer from our team as we only brought four substitutes for the entire tournament while most teams had seven to nine subs," Caldon said. "Both days that we competed were in the mid-90s. I think by the time we played Eglin we were probably just low on energy."

Of note were Tinker strikers Jeremi Isaacs and Lawrence Chun, who scored all five goals for Tinker over the weekend. Louis Ibarra had a standout weekend controlling the mid-field, Caldon said, as did Benjamin "Wormy" Folk, who had more than 20 saves at the net.
