Operation KUDOS set for Sept. 25 Published Sept. 9, 2010 By Amber Renteria-Hulme Airman and Family Readiness Center TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- With Operation KUDOS, Children from ages 2 to 16 are given a unique opportunity to learn about what it is their parents experience while being deployed. KUDOS -- or Kids Understanding Deployment Operations -- allows families, through hands-on activities, to participate in a mock deployment in a fun and safe environment. The free event, scheduled for Sept. 25, will be an exciting day with lots of giveaways and door prizes. The day will begin at the PDF line in Bldg. 255 and start time will depend on your assigned chalk. The first chalk begins at 9 a.m. and they will run every 45 minutes. While each family walks through the line visiting various base agencies to have a checklist completed, they can gather goodies such as a sling bag, T-shirt, canteen and other much needed items for their deployment. After leaving the PDF line, the children will be directed to the OG auditorium for a commander's brief to get the details of their orders and how they will proceed throughout the day. Upon completing their brief, they will be bused to Dock 2 and will board an aircraft for a simulated flight to Camp Courage. When they arrive at Camp Courage, they will be fed a hot dog lunch and will have the chance to familiarize themselves with military life away from home. Each child must pre-register before the event and parents are responsible for their children throughout the day. Call the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 739-2747 to register and for more information.
