Swingers win civilian softball championship Published Sept. 9, 2010 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER PUBLIC AFFAIRS, Okla. -- The Geckos never had a chance. The Swingers beat them 18-3 in four innings to win the single-elimination intramural softball civilian championship Aug. 25. "We are six-time softball champs and this is our 14th run-rule game in a row," said Swingers Coach Robert Mahan. "Ryan Hurst was the heart and soul of the team in defense." The game began somewhat slow; certainly out-of-character for the Swingers who scored only one run. But, the Swingers soon found their groove. In the second inning, after completing one lineup rotation, they started again, bringing home nine runners. With the score at 10-0 Swingers, the Geckos were up to bat. Benny Aguilar lead off the Geckos second inning with a home run. When the inning ended, the Geckos brought home another runner. The inning ended with the Swingers leading 10-2. In typical Swingers' fashion, they dominated the third inning, bringing home five runners. The Geckos only managed to get one run in the third and trailed the Swingers 15-3 going into the fourth inning. The Swingers scored three runs in the top half of the fourth inning. They held the Geckos scoreless in the bottom half and won the game 18-3. Going into the championship, the Swingers were undefeated, while the Geckos had a 9-3 win-loss record.
