CSD delivers loss to 552nd OSS Published Aug. 23, 2010 By John Stuart Staff Writer Tinker Public Affairs -- It was a game of almosts and what ifs for the 552nd Operational Support Squadron. As they struggled against their fleet-of-foot CSD Navy foes Tuesday night, it was clear their game plan was all hitch and no giddy up. CSD showed up ready for the bout and put their foes away 12-6. The milk turned sour in the first quarter. It didn't take long for 552nd OSS' shenanigans to begin. It was their opening drive that quarterback Donald Barrett heaved his first interception. They were deep in the red zone and had only 12 yards to taste victory. But CEB's Jake Narum had other plans as he wrangled his way into possession on a bobbled pass. But in the second, 552nd OSS showed some defensive resolve, as Melvin "Action" Jackson picked off CSD quarterback Brandon Collier at the 552nd two yard-line, staving the touchdown. Ultimately it was for naught, though, as CSD answered with an interception of their own only two plays later. A bobbled reception by receiver Stasik Vaughn gave way for CSD's Kyle Coe to grab the rock and run for the end zone. Then, only two plays later CSD capitalized on the reversal, as Chuck Clemons hauled in the six-yard pitch in heavy traffic from Collier for the touchdown. The two-point conversion fell flat, but CSD was on the move. 552nd OSS rekindled a sentila of offensive glory in the third quarter, capitalizing on CSD's botched opening drive that put the ball at the 50. Then it was only three plays later that "Action" Jackson was in the end zone, putting six points on the board for 552nd OSS. Barrett had thrown it high into the corner of the end zone for Jackson to battle it out for the catch. A botched two-point attempt kept things interesting at 6-6. But it all came down to the fourth quarter as CSD's de-facto MVP Narum helped his Sailors to the game-winning touchdown on a 60-yard touchdown reception. Collier placed a clean ball squarely in Narum's hands, splitting two safeties and leaving nothing but running room for the six points. The game was all but over as CSD sailed the victory ship into port. "I just caught the ball thinking 'run' because I know I'm the slowest guy on this field," Narum said of his two interceptions and touchdown. "I was just feeling lucky to have good field position. Janai Holcomb is my inspiration."
