The odds were against the Med Group at the Aug. 2 doubleheader. They were down a player and had only one spectator, compared to the AGE Generators' crowd at Championship Field. Yet, they still pummeled their opponent.

The Med Group won the first game 21-7 in six innings and took the second game 19-9 in four innings.

"Although we were missing some guys, we still hit very well, which won us the games," said Mike McCabe of the Medics. "We should be locked and loaded for the playoff push."

With an outside temperature of 104 degrees at 7:30 p.m., game one began slowly. First up to bat were the medics. With only nine batters present, the team's 10th batter was an automatic out. Even with the auto out against them, they still scored six runs.

Going into the second inning, the Med Group scored two more runs off an inside-the-park home run hit by McCabe.

The Med Group failed to score in the third inning, but AGE had better luck. One player crossed the plate, making the score 8-1 Med Group.

In the fourth inning, Med Group put three more runs on the board and AGE tried to catch up. Their fans cheered incessantly.

"You can do it, we all have faith," yelled someone from the AGE's bleachers at the bottom of the fourth inning.

"Hit it, hit it," yelled another AGE player's family.

Despite their fans' enthusiasm, AGE managed only one run. Med Group led 11-2.

Med Group scored again in the fifth inning when Jeramy Thigpen hit a two-run home run. With Med Group leading by 11, AGE fought to turn it around. They narrowed the gap by six, scoring seven runs in their half of the fifth inning. With the score 13-7 Med Group, the teams headed into the final inning.

The sixth inning held promise for AGE, but ultimately, it was the Med Group that took off running, scoring eight runs. AGE didn't score at all in the bottom of the inning and Med Group won 21-7.

The start of the second game, mirrored the previous game's first inning. After AGE went scoreless to lead off the game, the Med Group scored six in the bottom of the first.

AGE was quick to change that pattern in the second inning. The team scored seven runs, including a three-run inside-the-park home run by Tony Port. But it wasn't enough to get ahead. Med Group came back with five runs in their half of the inning, putting them up 11-7.

After holding AGE to a scoreless top of the third, Med Group scored five more runs in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 16-7. The fourth and final inning wrapped with AGE scoring two more runs and the Medics scoring three more runs. Med Group won 19-9.

Going into the Aug. 2 doubleheader, the Med Group ranked fifth place for the Monday-night league with a win-loss record of 4-4. AGE was in sixth place with a record of 3-5.

"Our record is not true to how good we are because we were only beat by the civilian teams and they're good," McCabe said. "Med Group is probably the best military team on Monday nights."
