AFMC names Tinker teen Youth of the Year Published July 23, 2010 Air Force Materiel Command Services Marketing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Air Force Materiel Command Services recently announced that Chiara Foster of Tinker Air Force Base was selected as the 2010 AFMC Youth of the Year. The Youth of the Year Program recognizes superior leadership skills, academic achievement and outstanding service to the community. By receiving this honor, Chiara is awarded a $1,500 savings bond. She was selected from candidates from a variety of AFMC bases for her outstanding service to Tinker Youth Programs, community, her academic achievements, moral and ethical character and family values. Chiara is the daughter of Master Sgt. Norma Foster, 507th Operations Group, and Brad Foster, 38th Cyberspace Engineering Group. She has been a member of the Tinker Youth Center for nine years and the President of the Tinker Patriot Keystone Club for four and a half years. Under her leadership, the Keystone Club has progressed from basic to silver level charter. A senior at Midwest City High School, she is a national Merit Commended Scholar and Band Council vice president for the MCHS Marching Band. Other participants in the AFMC Youth of the Year competition were: · Adiya Phadke, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, runner up -- receives a $1,000 bond · Megan Mickley, Eglin AFB, Fla. -- receives an $800 bond · Jasmine Carr, Robins AFB, Ga. -- receives an $800 bond · Porter Jefferson, Edwards AFB, Calif. -- receives an $800 bond. All of the AFMC Youth of the Year participants traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Air Force Youth of the Year Awards Ceremony June 24 at the Pentagon. Lt. Gen. Richard Y. Newton III, the deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel, hosted the event and presented trophies to the major command honorees and plaques to the base-level honorees.
