Swingers hang on to first place

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --  They came out swinging and didn't rest until they won the July 19 doubleheader.

The 552nd OSS didn't stand a chance against the first-place Swingers. At Field 1, the Swingers took the lead early on and won the first game 15-2 in four innings. They then took the second game 20-1 in four innings.

From the moment the eighth-place 552nd OSS took to the plate in the first inning of the first game, the teams clashed. Dressed in unmatched workout apparel, the 552nd OSS better resembled a group of guys assembled for a neighborhood game of stickball. Whereas, the Swingers were dressed in uniform T-shirts and had a manager.

First up to bat, the 552nd OSS struck out without scoring a single run. The Swingers, on the other hand, began a second rotation through their lineup after the team had already scored nine runs. When the inning wrapped, 11 runs had crossed the plate for the Swingers.

In inning two, the 552nd OSS scored a lone run and the Swingers scored four, which primarily came from a pair of homeruns.

The Swingers' Travis Moore proved to be asset and was the player of the game for his team. He hit a three-run homerun in the first inning and followed with a solo, inside-the-park homerun in the second.

There were no runs by either team in the rest of the game.

The second game began slower than the first.

The Swingers, who were first up to bat, scored three runs. The 552nd OSS didn't score their first run until second inning. Going into the third inning, the Swingers were up 3-1.

In the third inning, the Swingers scored seven runs. The inning was highlighted by a grand-slam hit off the bat of Jimmy Bland. Going into the fourth and final inning, the 552nd OSS trailed 10-1.

Things didn't get any better for the 552nd OSS in the fourth inning as the Swingers batted around and 10 more runs crossed the plate. The 552nd OSS couldn't crawl out of the hole they were in and the game ended 20-1 in favor of the Swingers.
