448th SCMW welcomes back Gilbert Montoya as director

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Gilbert J. Montoya was appointed as the director of the 448th Supply Chain Management Wing here June 29.

From humble beginnings, Mr. Montoya has accomplished many extraordinary feats in his quest to do great things in his civilian career.

Among his peers, and in front of his new command, Mr. Montoya took the 448th SCMW flag as a tradition symbolizing acceptance of leadership.

Mr. Montoya began his career in 1985 as an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic assigned to the Aircraft Production Divisions, San Antonio Air Logistics Center. From this humble beginning he has come a long way to the position in which he accepted with the 448th SCMW, he said.

"Simply put; Gil, you are the right person, at the right time, for the right job," said Maj. Gen. Gary T. McCoy, commander, Air Force Global Logistics Support Center, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

"As many of you know the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center became a reality on March 28, 2008, when the center stood up at Scott AFB. Our mission is simple, but critical to the combat capability of our Air Force and our Nation. We deliver integrated global supply chain support for war fighter capabilities and we deliver that capability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and unlike restaurants we never close," said General McCoy.

The 448th Supply Chain Management Wing took flight on April 2, 2008.

The wing operates in a virtual environment. Mr. Montoya will have groups located in four sites across Air Force Materiel Command at Tinker; Robins Air Force Base, Ga.; Hill Air Force Base, Utah and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
