Tinker hockeyeurs back in pocket, slay Warriors

If the Nordiques have suffered from roster issues due to summer deployments, Sunday's game appeared to be the exception. The team was almost back to full strength, with three forward lines and two for defense, making a dominant showing against the undermanned Warriors. The Nordiques claimed the June 27 win 4-3 and improved to 3-1-2 overall.

Though he should've been rusty after a five-month TDY, Mark Keown came out gunning. He dusted off his hockey equipment and his bag of tricks early in the first period. He earned the first goal for Tinker on a shot from the high slot on an assist from Jeremy Brennan.

Then in the second, the Tinker beast really came alive. Clark McClay got the sticks going with a soft shot to the back of the net for the Nordiques on an assist from Miguel Lopez. Then, a breakout push up the right side notched a third goal for the period. Brennan fed it to Bryson Harley who dumped it up to Keown to put it in the net. If Keown was rusty, he certainly wasn't showing it. Seems a little time in the desert training camp can do a hockey player good.

In the third it was Harley's turn for greatness on his solo goal, to put Tinker up 4-1 with only minutes to play. But the Warriors wouldn't be routed. They dumped on the hockey magic for two quick goals in the last five minutes. It was close but Tinker still clinched it, and should be back to near full strength to close out the summer season.

The Nordiques play again at 4:45 p.m. July 11 against the Party Boyz at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Edmond.
