You could say it wasn't meant to be this week for Med Group, as their intramural softball team recorded two disheartening losses. True to their name, it was the Swingers who came out on top in the double header June 21, winning the first game 22-11 after four innings and claiming the second game 29-14 after four.

Things were looking good for Med Group as Loyal "Dock" Stierten's two-run homer in the top of the first helped the medics jump out to a 3-0 lead. But the Swingers answered back and more. Glen Kierstead smacked a two-run homer followed by one from Jimmy Bland. It was 7-4 to close the inning. The Swingers had the lead and wouldn't give it up.

Med Group's Mike McCabe slammed an in-park homer in the top of the second, pouring on the speed in his trademark yellow cleats to make it around. It was 7-6 as the Swingers went to the plate in the bottom of the second. They were up by one when things got ugly.

It was nine runs for the Swingers that inning. Med Group couldn't manage a third out as their opponents notched nine hits to close the second down at 16-6.

The Medics bounced back a bit, buoyed by the dugout encouragement of shortstop Kevin Vegas. They scored five on five hits in the top of the third and held the Swingers to only one run to make it 17-11 going into the pivotal fourth inning.

With a run rule looming the medics couldn't get it done. The clutch inning went three up, three down for the medics and it was all but the Swingers to win. Another homer from Kirstead plus four more runs hammered the last nail home. It was 22-11 Swingers at the final.

The following game went down in similar fashion, as Med Group couldn't keep their offensive armada afloat. It was the Swingers' to claim 29-14 to close out the double header.
