It was clear from early on that the 72nd Operational Support Squadron softball team was clicking. On a muggy Tuesday night June 22 they were up against the venerable Cow Tippers and this much was obvious: 72nd OSS brought their A-game, winning the first game 14-3 after four innings and claiming the second game 20 to 14 in six innings.

In the first game it was 10-0 going into the bottom of the second inning. As 72nd OSS took the field they'd already proven themselves from the plate over two innings. They'd scored six in the second inning alone, bolstered by Col. Dan Furleigh's two-run homer over the left-field fence.

The offensive blitz continued in the fourth when 72nd OSS's Dave Melton slammed an in-park homer to the center field fence, scoring two and putting them up 14-0.

The Cow Tippers had last bats and needed some serious runs to dodge the run-rule locomotive. They put three on the board on five hits, but it was too little too late. 72nd OSS clinched the win at 14-3.
