Club presents $15,000 in scholarships

The Tinker Officers' Spouse Club along with First Command Financial Planning and Tinker Federal Credit Union, presented $15,500 in scholarships to 12 area high school seniors and two spouses during the April meeting.

Judges chose from 65 high school applicants and 10 spouses for the scholarships. Funds come from sales proceeds through the Tinker Thrift Shop.

Winners are:

Austin Kipp of Carl Albert Senior High School, $2,500 from First Command. Kipp will major in Physics at the University of Oklahoma.

Ray Ann Haslam of McLoud High School, $1,500. Haslam plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at either the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University.

Jacob Beierle of Edmond Memorial High School, $1,500. Beierle will attend the University of Vermont and major in Psychology.

Ian Sanders of Christian Heritage Academy, $1,500. He will attend Southern Nazarene University where he will major in Biology or Chemistry.

The $1,000 Tinker Federal Credit Union scholarship winner is Sarah White of Edmond Memorial High School. White plans to major in both Musical Theater and Music Education at either the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma City University.

Other $1,000 scholarships went to Stephanie Phan of Classen School of Advanced Studies and Tegan Burkhard of Deer Creek High School. Phan will attend college at the University of California, Irvine, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of California, San Diego or the University of Southern California. She plans to major in Political Science and then attend law school. Burkhard is accepted at the University of Oklahoma,
Oklahoma State University and the University of Missouri, Columbia and plans to major in Journalism with the idea of becoming a magazine journalist.

Both Rebecca Bornstein, of Mount St. Mary High School, and Chiara Foster of Midwest City High School received $750 scholarships. Bornstein will attend Oklahoma State University and major in Biological Sciences. Foster will attend Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she will major in Biochemistry.

The $500 winners are Addison Broberg, Edmond Memorial High School, Caroline Krenek, Edmond Memorial High School, and Hillarie Kessler of Deer Creek High School. Broberg will attend Oklahoma City University and study Marketing. Krenek will attend the University of Oklahoma majoring in Business Administration and Kessler will attend Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., where she signed a national letter of intent to run cross-country and track. She plans to study nutrition or pharmacy.

Hannah Thomas is the recipient of the $1,500 spouse scholarship. She is attending the University of Oklahoma pursuing a degree in mathematics.

Tida Terrell received the $1,000 spouse scholarship. She will attend the University of Tennessee Health and Science Center where she work toward a degree in Dental Hygiene.

The Tinker OSC awards the scholarship every year to deserving high school seniors and spouses.
