Air show offers plenty of family entertainment

It's time to take a peek at some of the special entertainment that will thrill the young at heart during the Star Spangled Salute Father's Day weekend June 19 and 20 on the Tinker flight line. Gates open at 9 a.m. both days. Admission is free and open to the public.

Guests will see static ground displays, aerial demonstrations by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Trojan Phlyers, Embry Riddle, John Klatt and Younkin Air. The USO Jet Car will it fire up its engine and speed down the taxiway. On the flightline, food and souvenir vendors will sell a variety of items throughout the day.

The children's area includes Stepping Stones to Aviation, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, inflatable games such as fast pitch, water tag, water slide, moonwalk, air borne and more. Carnival-type games like bean bag toss, can smash, duck pond, plinko, bulls-eye, ring toss, lollipop pull and many other games will be under the big tent.

A wristband is available for $15 for use with children's games and activities for the entire day. Individual tickets can be purchased for 50 cents each. Wristband sales end at 7 p.m. and ticket sales end at 8:30 p.m. for inflatable games on Saturday. Wristband and ticket sales end at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The kid's area opens at 11 a.m. both days.

Saturday evening's entertainment on the flightline will be kicked off with the live music of "Revelation A Tribute Journey" band from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This band has played some of the biggest stages in the Kansas City area. They have the ability to capture the sounds of "Journey" and brings a new meaning and energy to the word.

This year's Tops In Blue musical show, "We Believe," takes center stage at 8 p.m. on the flightline. The Tops In Blue team is the best of the best performers throughout the Air Force. They are just beginning their 2010 tour and will travel the world visiting bases throughout the United States and foreign countries. The Tops In Blue tour is sponsored by Coca-Cola. Saturday's festivities will conclude with a 20-minute fireworks extravaganza following the Tops In Blue show.

Visitors are reminded that firearms and knives are prohibited on base. Vehicle drivers must present their driver's license to the gate guard before entering the base. Motorcycle riders and their passengers must wear helmets. Smoking is prohibited in the children's area, near aircraft or in the hangar.

Pets, coolers, backpacks or glass containers are not allowed. Diaper bags and purses are permitted, but are subject to search. Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted, and don't forget sun screen and ear plugs.
