As darkness descended May 3, it was reminiscent of what was happening on the intramural soccer field. Although it had been close most of the game, AEF was finally falling to their Navy opponents 3-1 in the quarterfinals play.

With a potential season championship on the line, both teams had plenty to play for.

It was Navy's Will Mullins who got on the board first, with an early goal at three minutes. Then it was just a waiting game as the period finished out with no further offensive pizzazz. Both teams managed a number of shots on goal as Navy took eight and AEF six, but to no avail.

Mullins was back in the second half, and went to work with a goal at minute 15, a shot that came from the far right side of the goal, went over the keeper's head and bounced off the far left goal post before making it in the net.

Next it was Marvin Vinluan at minute 25 with a solo goal to put Navy up 3-0. As nighttime fell, so did AEF's chances of mounting a comeback. But Jay Paul Dietz put one in for AEF at minute 28, to keep things interesting. In the end it was too little too late and Navy claimed the game 3-1 to continue to the semi-finals May 5.

Navy played Med Group Wednesday and the winner of that game will play the winner of the loser's bracket on May 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the league championship.
